SUMMARY:Exploring Moths with Joanne Savage
DESCRIPTION:Curious about the world of moths? Uncover the hidden wonders of these incredible insects that call our backyards home. Come to the Rockwood Park Interpretation Centre on Thursday October 2nd\, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM\, and meet Joanne Savage from the Saint John Naturalists Club. She’ll be sharing her discoveries about moths right from her backyard in Quispamsis\, NB\, where she has counted well over 800 different species of moths. \nMoths might not get as much attention as butterflies\, but they have their own charm. Joanne has been keeping an eye on these creatures for years and has some amazing photos to prove it. Get ready for a relaxed and interesting talk where Joanne will tell us all about moths – their habits\, their beauty\, and their importance in our local environment. She’ll also offer some tips on how to get started with “mothing” and share information about helpful reference guides. DESCRIPTION:Grand Manan Birding\nOctober 11 2025 (Rain date: October 12 2025)\nLed by Jim Wilson\n\nEarly October is a lovely time to visit Grand Manan and a good month to find interesting birds. After the summer nesting season many birds begin migration but not necessarily by flying south. Weather patterns often carry restless birds eastward where they eventually reach the coast\, run out of land and drop down on offshore islands like those of the Grand Manan Archipelago.\n\nWhere we will meet:\nThe first parking lot at Rockwood Park on the right just as you enter the main entrance at 7:50am where we may condense vehicles\nOr\nMeet us directly at the Coastal Transport ferry terminal at Black’s Harbour at 9:00 am\n\nWhat we’ll do:\n9:30-11:00am — We’ll look for seabirds during the crossing to Grand Manan\n11:00-3:00pm — Walk the Village of North Head to seek out whatever birds might be there\n3:30-5:00pm — On ferry back to the mainland\, we will again watch for seabirds. By then the tide in the Bay will have changed direction\, offering potentially different marine birds for us to look for!\n6:00pm — We should be back in Saint John\n\nWhat to bring:\n– Sturdy shoes\n– Water & Lunch\n– Binoculars or Camera\n– Field Guide(s)\n– Dress in layers appropriate for the day’s weather\n\nCost:\nThe cost for round-trip foot passengers on the ferry is $13.00 for adults. Tickets are purchased when departing Grand Manan\, (between 3 PM and 3:20 PM).\n\nRain Date:\nSunday\, October 12th 2025. Same logistics.\n\nRegister Now!\nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Name *FirstLastEmail * \n Email Any comments?\n \n \n PhoneAny additional comments?Submit
