The volunteer team for the day included Lead Volunteer Brian Comeau, along with Shantel McCracken, Tawnee Dwyer, John Pickle, and Nancy Hamilton.

Throughout the shift, the team engaged with 22 beach visitors, receiving very positive responses. One couple with two off-leash dogs was surprised to learn that migration season was still in progress.

Bird numbers had declined noticeably, as most “peeps” had already departed on their direct migration to South America. Only 40 to 50 shorebirds were observed during the shift, including 3–4 Sanderlings and three Dunlins. Additional sightings included two Red-throated Loons on the bay, a passing Monarch Butterfly, and a Northern Harrier.

No significant disturbances were reported. The volunteers recorded three or four on-leash dogs on the beach, as well as the two off-leash dogs mentioned earlier. One angler was also present.

The shift ran from 10:30 to 13:00 under sunny conditions, with a temperature of 12°C and winds from the north at 12 kph.
