Deer Island Birding with Paul Mansz

A fall day on Deer Island can run the gamut from fairly quiet to quite exciting – we never know what this trip will bring us!
A number of sea birds will be seen from the ferry, and once on the island we will be looking for lingering migrants as well as newly arrived wintering birds. We will check a number of overlooks of fresh and salt water, lunch at the campground, and possibly a short hike around Davidson Head.

Where to meet us:
– The first parking lot at Rockwood Park on the right just as you enter the main entrance at 7:45am sharp. We will condense vehicles and leave at 8:00am, traveling in convoy to Letete to catch the 9:30am ferry to Deer Island.

– Letete Ferry Launch by 9:00am to ensure we can catch the 9:30am ferry departing to Deer Island
We will return by ferry in the mid-afternoon and should return to Saint John by 5:30pm.
What to bring:
– Sturdy hiking shoes
– Water & Lunch
– Binoculars or Camera
– Field guides
– Dress in layers, rain gear is recommended!
Washrooms are available on the ferry and the Point Park lunch stop.
