PLBO Reports: Saturday April 4 (Afternoon)

Afternoon Report

12:00 PM to 3:45 PM

Observers: Bev Schneider, Jennifer McCabe, Mike MacFarlane, Jenna Cowie

Weather: Sunny with fairly heavy cloud cover, temperature 0º C to 5º C.  Winds heavy from NE, 30-35 km/h.

Migration was light probably due to the NE winds but many species were seen.  Movement was primarily Black Scoters with a few flocks of Common Eiders.

Migration East – 693
Migration West – 29

Also seen were: Red-throated Loon, Red-breasted Merganser, Brant, Canada Goose, Guillemot.  There were large flocks (up to 100) of Purple Sandpipers and 6 to 8 parked Harlequin Ducks, 2 Gannets.  Very few Surf Scoters and White-winged Scoters were seen.  Land birds included 7 Song Sparrows, a Bohemian Waxwing and one raptor that may have been a Bald Eagle.
