Weather: Skies nearly cloudless during the AM. Cloud-cover built to roughly 50% during the afternoon. Very light and variable wind (less than 5 kmh) until a 5 to 10kmh sea breeze kicked in around 3PM. Rh 75% dropping to 56, then increasing as the sea breeze developed.Notes:
A record flight for the date. Broad-wings arrived individually and in small groups rather steadily from 11AM till the wind change at 3PM.
Highlights: The season’s first groups of Broad-wings and a good showing of Northern Harriers and Sharp-shins. Very good diversity.
Birds going for the decoy: None
Raptor interactions: Sharp-shinned Hawk and Broad-winged Hawk, Broad-winged Hawk and Broad-winged Hawk, Merlin and American Kestrel, Merlin and Turkey Vulture (aggressor listed first).
Non-raptors: Very few birds in the woods or in the skies.
Tomorrow: Probably southeast winds. No counts are planned. Favourable winds are expected for Friday, as well as the weekend. It will be interesting to see what happens.
