Club Secretary
Est. monthly time commitment: 1-2 hours
Starts June 2026
As part of the Executive Committee, the Club secretary takes meeting minutes each month and provides valuable insights on moving the Club forward.. The Secretary is elected for a one-year term during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and may serve a maximum of four consecutive years.
Point Lepreau Bird Observatory Committee Chairperson
The Point Lepreau Bird Observatory monitors seabird migration along the Bay of Fundy. The ongoing research activities contribute to conservation through hands-on citizen science.
The role of the volunteer PLBO Chair is to oversee the activities of the PLBO, working with the PLBO Committee, the Club Executive and the Program Coordinator.
Essential Requirements:
• Passion and Proximity – an enthusiasm for migration monitoring and a residence in the greater Saint John area.
• Familiarity with the birds of the Maritime Region.
• Good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to effectively engage with volunteers.
• Experience with project management.
• Familiarity with basic financial statements.
• Ability to provide a clear criminal record report satisfactory to security officials at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Facility.
Would be an asset:
• Experience with surveys or scientific data collection.
• Experience with resource management.
• Membership in the Saint John Naturalists’ Club.
• Ability to communicate in the French language.
Potential Transition Process:
The present Chair is prepared to work with his successor for a period of up to two years after the appointment if necessary, to ensure a smooth transition.
Program Planning Committee Chairperson
Est. monthly time commitment: 1-2 hours
Do you have big ideas and a passion for sharing the wonders of nature? As a Program Committee Chairperson, you’ll help shape the Saint John Naturalists Club’s monthly meetings, outings, workshops, and special events.
You’ll brainstorm guest speakers, events, and bring fresh ideas to the table. The Program Coordinator handles the logistics and promotion so you get to focus on the fun, creative side of things!

Behind the Scenes Crew
Help set up events and workshops, organize materials, or bring snacks. This behind-the-scenes role is perfect for those who want to help in simple, meaningful ways. This role helps prepare the space for our workshops as well as monthly club meetings, held the third Thursday of each month (September–May) from 7:00–8:30 PM at the Rockwood Park Interpretation Centre.
Tasks include setting up chairs and tables, organizing the welcome table, and putting things away after the meeting. We’re building a crew so volunteers can rotate. It’s a great way to support the club!
Hybrid/Zoom Tech Support (Monthly Meetings)
This volunteer ensures smooth hybrid setup for our monthly club meetings (third Thursday, September–May, 7:00–8:30 PM at the Rockwood Park Interpretation Centre). Responsibilities include setting up and managing the Zoom call, connecting audio/video equipment, sharing the presentation screen, and assisting with Q&A from remote attendees. Tech knowledge is a must, and reliability is key. We’re building a team to share the role. Training and support are available. We provide all gear.
Workshop Presenters
Do you have a nature-related skill, topic, or idea you’d like to share? We’re looking for volunteers to lead workshops for our club. Whether it’s birding basics, nature photography, plant ID, or another topic, we’d love to hear your idea. We’ll help with promotion, logistics, and developing your presentation.
Outing Leaders
We’re looking for volunteers to lead nature outings and field trips. Whether it’s a casual walk, a birding day, or a special destination. Leaders help choose the location, set the pace, welcome participants, and keep things running smoothly. You don’t need to be an expert but comfortable guiding a group and sharing your interest in nature. We’ll support you with promotion and logistics.
Casual Weekly Walk Leaders (May–September)
Help lead a casual Tuesday evening nature walk (6:30-8:00 PM, May–Sept). Leaders choose the location, greet the group, take attendance, and keep things moving. No expertise needed. Just bring your love of nature. Sign up for a walk using the link here.
